Saif Bin Zayed Reviews the Arbitration Mechanism for the UAE Heavy Search and Rescue Team’s Classification

 A First-of-its-kind Project

Lieutenant General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met at his office yesterday (Sunday) Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Head of the UAE Search and Rescue Team, and the Classifiers Committee of the United Nations’ International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).

His Highness welcomed the International Committee, and was briefed on the arbitration mechanism used for the UAE Heavy Search and Rescue Team’s classification. The committee also familiarized His Highness with the selection criteria that would be used to determine qualifying teams. It is worth mentioning that this is the first project of its kind in the world.

At the same event, the Head of the UAE Search and Rescue Team briefed His Highness on the team’s capabilities, in terms of the Portfolio of Evidence and the readiness to carry out the field test, which will be held from the 16th to the 18th of December in the Al Shaleela region in Abu Dhabi.

The Classifiers Committee consists of 9 members from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United States, Japan, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and China.

Attending the meeting were Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director - General of the Headquarters Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police; Colonel Saud Al Saadi, Director of the Secretariat of the Office of His Highness the Minister of Interior; and Lt. Colonel Mohammad Ibrahim Al Ameri, Director of Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police.

The Classifiers Committee of the United Nations’ International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) held a meeting on Tuesday morning at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and discussed the UAE Search and Rescue Team’s Portfolio of Evidence for the classification project for the heavy category.

Major General Staff Dr. Obeid Al Hiri Salim Al Kutbi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services; Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of  Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Civil Defense Acting General Commander-in-chief; Brigadier Fares Khalifa Al Farsi, Director General of Guards and Special Tasks at Abu Dhabi Police; Brigadier General Dr. Saif Bu Dhufaira Al Ameri, Director General of Security and Ports Affairs; and a number of deputy director generals attended the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Major General Yusuf Al Ansari, Director of the Fire Brigade in Kuwait; General Abdullah Al Ghanam, Assistant Director of Civil Defense in Saudi Arabia; Brigadier Hossam Al Saoub, Director of Crisis and Disaster Management at the Civil Defense in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; Colonel Salem Al Sanami, Deputy Director General of Ambulance and Rescue of the Sultanate of Oman; and Colonel Abdul Aziz Al Ameri, Director of Training Department at the Civil Defense in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as 35 international observers.
