Abu Dhabi Police to Head the Founding Committee of the Arab Forensic Evidence Network

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, December 14th 2013

Member states participating in the Arab Forensic Evidence Network meeting have selected Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Head of the Forensic Evidence Department at Abu Dhabi Police as Chairman of the Network’s Founding Committee.

Colonel Al Hammadi, stated that during the closing session, the attendees have decided to establish a founding committee and set the official statute of the Network that will be headquartered in Abu Dhabi. The statute is expected to be ready no later than January 2014.

Al Hammadi added that Arab state members will be notified with the outcomes of the establishment process including the Network’s strategies, mission and role in enhancing different work aspects. Accordingly, member states shall present their remarks prior to the first meeting to be held by the Network during the first quarter of 2014. Representatives from all Arab Forensic Laboratories will attend the meeting.

“The achieved results will contribute to improving performance of Arab forensic laboratories, particularly the emerging ones, in addition to boosting  cooperation and coordination between countries,” said Al Hammadi; adding that it was agreed to hold four technical workshops on the sidelines of the first meeting at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. Experts and technicians from various participating member states will attend the workshops’ sessions, which will tackle different topics in forensic science. The meeting will also include an exhibition showcasing the most advanced systems and equipment used by forensic laboratories.

Colonel Al Hammadi pointed that the Secretariat General of the founding committee will be chaired by Lieutenant Adel Al Sakri, with First Lieutenant Abdullah Al Breiki and Lieutenant Ahmad Afifi as members.

Moreover, attendees of the Arab Forensic Evidence Network’s meeting, which was held in Abu Dhabi, toured the forensics laboratories, accompanied by Major Mariam Juma, General Coordinator at the Forensic Evidence Department.  They were briefed on the mechanisms of forensic work, the tasks of each laboratory, and the major criminal cases handled by the Abu Dhabi Police Forensic Laboratories. Committee members received the Forensic Evidence Department Shield, as an honorary gesture,.

Delegations of the participating member states praised the Abu Dhabi Police Initiative to establish the Arab Forensic Evidence Network, equivalent to the prominent American and European Forensics Networks. “This would positively enhance cooperation and experience sharing among forensic laboratories, and provide support and assistance to emerging laboratories that lack the necessary experience and technical abilities.

The two-day meeting, which was held at the Forensic Evidence Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, was attended by KSA, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, and Jordan, in addition to the UAE.
