ADP Delegation Reviews the South Korean Experience in Libraries and Research

The Abu Dhabi Police offered the specialized libraries at the Republic of Korea a copy of the latest book published by the Decision-Making Support Center titled: Change Management 2 authored by Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

A delegation of the Decision-Making Support Center at the Abu Dhabi Police, chaired by Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salah Al Ghoul, President of the Center, visited South Korea to review its advanced experience in libraries and research. The delegation, which carried out a four-day visit, included Major Mohamed Khalifa Al Ali, Chief of the Civil Research Section, and Senior Administrative Fatima Larry, Chief of the Research Support Section.

The first day covered the high-tech digital library that is accessible to people with special needs. The delegation also reviewed the library’s historical section, which includes old books on crime and law. They were also briefed on archiving and how to keep books intact through proper maintenance.

Later on, the delegation toured the geographical library containing old and new maps of South Korea, which are used when carrying out security and geographical analysis and studies. They also reviewed the paper-book library containing a variety of books, where researchers can borrow books using the library card. The delegation also toured the e-library, with its advanced devices and tools that provide self-services to researchers; they can review local and global books in addition to references. The delegation also reviewed the advanced services in the library’s halls such as the photography and montage room, and the e-archive service.

On the second day, the delegation visited the South Korean Economic Policy Analysis Institute. They reviewed the library along with its services and means through which it is linked to various informational resources used by researchers. The delegation was also briefed on communication with researchers outside the centre in order to form a network with researchers within different economic fields; this network aims to harness their expertise to enrich the institute’s reports.

They overviewed the efforts of research team, which prepares for meetings with government officials to discuss major programs and studies that help to make decisions in fields related to economic research. The delegation also studied the efforts of the Developmental Policies Council, which contains a number of other specialized development institutes across different sectors.

On the third day, the delegation visited the National Archive, and studied the method to renovate and manually and automatically save documents, photos, videos and audio files. They also reviewed the security and safety systems regarding these documents, which are used at the confidential document room at the center.

The delegation’s fourth day comprised of a visit to the Jeju Peace Institute to review work processes on studies and research related to politics and peace. The delegation was briefed on the institute’s efforts to attract both internal and external research. The delegation also toured the wax museum that depiects famous international people who influenced politics and peace. They also visited the technical exhibition where they learned about the latest technology in research.

During the visit, the delegation placed copies of Change Management 2 at the national library and the Economic Policy Analysis Institute at South Korea. Shields and memorial gifts were exchanged.
