Next Year’s Event Scheduled to Return to Las Vegas in First Half of 2013

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The inaugural CARTES in North Americaevent wrapped up last week in Las Vegas, Nev. with nearly 2,000 attendees from 54 countries and a sold-out roster of 120 exhibitors. With the Americas gearing up for EMV and NFC implementations in the coming year and beyond, participants gathered to discuss the issues driving these markets within the 70 session topics, hear fresh research on payment card shipments and consumer demand for mobile payments, and see new solutions and services from technology providers.

Some of the highlights of CARTES in North America included new data from the Munich-based Smart Payment Associationon the number of EMV payment cards shipped worldwide passing the 1 billion mark in 2011. Paris, France-based Ipsosalso released research on consumer sentiment surrounding mobile payments in the U.S. and Canada and plans a major study on North America consumer readiness and interest in mobile payments later this month.
