The Directorate General of the
Federal Criminal Police at the Ministry of Interior organized an introductory
workshop titled “Culture of Combating Human Trafficking”, attended by a number
of officers and non-commissioned officers from the Federal Criminal Police
Department, the Human Rights Department, and the Ewa’a Shelter for Women and
Children.
The workshop, which was held at the
Eastern Mangroves Hotel in Abu Dhabi, was attended by Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed
Nehkairah, Head of Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior. Also
present were Brigadier Mohammad Ghadir Al Kutobi, Deputy Director General of
the Federal Criminal Police, and Colonel Hassan Al Shamsi, Director of the
Federal Investigation Department, as well as a number of Ministry of Interior’s
officers.
In his speech at the workshop’s
inauguration, Brigadier Ahmed Nehkairah highlighted the UAE’s early commitment
to preserve human beings’ dignity, being the real pillar of the community
development and prosperity. “The UAE has made significant efforts to
combat human trafficking crimes. These efforts were highly appraised and
commended by the International Community and the various human rights
organizations”, added Brigadier Nekhairah.
Moreover, he noted that the
promulgation of the Federal Law No. 51/2006 on combating human trafficking,
which led to the establishment of the National Committee on Combating Human
Trafficking is the culmination of the efforts of the State in combating this
crime.
Brigadier Ahmed Nehkairah also
underscored the keenness of the Ministry of Interior to strengthen
international cooperation and coordination with international organizations,
governmental and non-governmental organizations and international bodies to
help eradicate human trafficking crimes. This can be achieved by adopting
a set of measures to curb such crimes; as well as organizing workshops,
training courses and symposia, with a view to spread knowledge and raise
awareness among police officers, regarding the implementation of the law on
combating human trafficking crimes.
Concluding, Brigadier Nehkairah
expressed his hope that the workshop achieves the coveted goals, wishing everyone
further success.
For his part, Lt. Colonel Hamad
Rashid Al Zaabi, head of the Anti-human Trafficking Section defined human
trafficking crimes; the mechanism of identification of human trafficking
victims; the fundamental rules of criminal evidence collection; and the phases
and aspects of criminal investigation in human trafficking cases.
Notably, a number of practical
exercises were conducted during the workshop, to acquaint attendees with the
methods and means adopted by criminals to exploit victims and force them to
perform illegal acts.
