ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, June 15th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The
Al Ain Civil Defense teams managed to put out a fire that broke out in
three warehouses at a business compound in Al Khrair area. The fire
completely engulfed the warehouses and their contents to ashes. Yet, no
injuries or casualties were reported.
In detail, Lt. Col. Rashid
Hamar Ain Al Darmaki, Director of Al Ain Civil Defense Department in Al
Ain stated that the Operations Room received notification at around 2:48
pm. Firefighting and rescue vehicles rushed from the Civil Defense and
rapid Intervention Centers at Al Zahira, Al Sinaiya, Zakher Station, and
Al Aqabiyah Station to the site of the incident. Firefighting teams
began working to contain the blaze, with the support of firefighters
from the various Civil Defense Centers in the City of Al Ain. More
firefighters were called to help from the external civil defense
centers.
Lt. Colonel Al Darmaki explained that it took around
three and a half hours to extinguish the fire, which gutted the
warehouses’ wood and fiberglass material contents to ashes. Firefighters
used water and foam to douse the blaze and cool down the location, to
prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring warehouses.
Moreover,
Al Darmaki added that a civil defense member sustained breathing
difficulties as a result of inhaling toxic smokes, and was transferred
to Al Ain hospital for treatment. “Evidence was sent to the Forensic
Laboratory to determine the causes of the blaze; and investigations are
still underway to determine the circumstances of the fire,” he
continued.
Al Darmaki urged warehouse owners to take preventive
and necessary safety measures, and secure electric switches, especially
during night hours; underscoring the importance of ensuring the good
condition of electrical wiring, and avoid loading transformers,
especially with the onset of summer and the soaring temperatures.
