Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, April 6th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Dubai’s
key players in the film and TV content market - Dubai Studio City
(DSC), Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) and Dubai Film and TV
Commission (DFTC) will be exhibiting at this year’s MIPTV, the leading
international content market and showcase for TV and digital
entertainment, which takes place in Cannes from 7-10 April.
The
participation of these three industry leaders will strengthen the
visibility of Dubai as a production destination, and raise awareness
around the facilities the Emirate offers. DSC offers state-of-the-art
infrastructure, facilities and services including its world-class Sound
Stages, which are the largest in the region and set Dubai apart as a
premier global destination for production and broadcasting.
Since
the inauguration of the Sound Stages in September 2013, two
internationally-renowned productions have been filmed within the Stages
including MasterChef Arabia, the first Arab MasterChef format with the
largest MasterChef set, and The Cube, a leading international game show
currently being aired on Dubai TV. Regional giant MBC also occupies one
of the Sound Stages, from which O3 productions have produced
cutting-edge content using their green screen and visual backlot
technology.
Jamal Al Sharif, Managing Director of Dubai Studio City, and Chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission commented;
"Dubai
has developed into a leading global production destination in recent
years, home to the latest infrastructure and facilities, and has been
the location of choice for the filming of major blockbusters including
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Happy New Year and many more. This
is testament to Dubai’s standing as a leading player in the production
industry.
"MIPTV is a fantastic platform through which Dubai’s
thriving and rich film industry can be presented to a key global
audience. This year’s Festival comes at an exciting time for Dubai’s
film industry, which has already seen the production of a number of
significant projects in 2013 such as MasterChef Arabia and the hotly
anticipated Bollywood film Welcome Back - with more to be announced
shortly - as well as the completion of two brand new sound stages at
Dubai Studio City. This maturation of Dubai’s film industry strengthens
its position as a leading media hub and sets the tone for an exciting
four days of discussions to be held during the Festival.”
Samr Al Marzooqi, Dubai Film Market Manager of the Dubai International Film Festival added:
“One
of DIFF’s key objectives is to raise the profile of Arab film on the
world stage, and we have been thrilled to see an increased number of
productions from the Middle East take part in internationally renowned
cinematic events year on year. Our partnership with MIPTV, now in its
third year, has been instrumental in giving filmmakers the opportunity
of presenting their films on an international platform and seek
international distribution.”
Created to meet the increasingly
sophisticated needs of the high growth media and entertainment industry,
Dubai Studio City provides access to an entire media ecosystem offering
state-of-the-art Sound Stages, commercial offices, boutique studios,
production, post-production and broadcast facilities, and
industry-specific products that are the first of their kind in the
region. The Dubai Studio City Sound Stages act as a one-stop shop for
production companies, and include indoor water tanks, workshops and
construction area, production offices and back of house and backlot. The
first of the sound stages is 15,000 sq. ft. and sound stages two and
three are 25,000 sq. ft. each in size and joined by a 30 m wide elephant
door.
