The
Police Sports Union Board of Directors recently held a meeting at the
Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ). The meeting was chaired by
Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of
Abu Dhabi Police and President of the Union and attended by all
members. The meeting comes in pursuance of the Ministerial Decree No.
245 of 2014, which calls for forming a new Board of Directors for the
Police Sports Union.
At the beginning of the meeting, Major
General Al Rumaithi expressed heartfelt appreciation and thanks in his
capacity as President of the Union and on behalf of the members of the
board, to Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Interior, for the trust he bestowed upon them
by designating them to select the Union’s new board members; pledging to
exert every possible effort to improve police sports work.
He
also thanked the former presidents and members of the Police Sports
Union for their unstinting efforts and significant achievements in
promoting police sports locally, regionally and internationally. He
especially thanked Adviser Abdullah Salem bin Nassra Al Ameri, former
President of the Union.
The board approved Major General Mohammed
Saeed Al Marri, as board member representing the Ministry of Interior
and the Police Sports Union at the National Olympic Committee and
Chairman of the Resources Development and Marketing Committee. They also
approved Brigadier Saleh Saeed Al Matroushi Chairman of the Technical
Committee; and Brigadier Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem as board member
representing the Ministry of Interior at the Leaderships Development
Center Board of Directors - General Authority of Youth and Sports
Welfare. Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri was appointed
Secretary General of the Union; Colonel Adil Abdul Rahman, Lieutenant
Colonel Ali Al Masibi, and Lieutenant Colonel Adnan buAsiba were
approved as members of the Resources Development and Marketing
Committee. Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Colonel Ahmed
Al Zayoudi, Lieutenant Colonel Abdulla Sultan, Lieutenant Colonel Arif
Ali Obaid Al Rais, Chief of Sports Activities Section and Major Issa Mir
Abdul Rahman, were approved as members of the Technical Committee.
Expert Dr. Hussein Al Sammari was approved as Rapporteur for the Board
of Directors and both Technical and Resources Development Committees.
The
board approved the previous session’s minutes and all of its decisions.
With respect to the internal sports activities, the board referred
reports on the previous championships to the Technical committee headed
by Brigadier Saleh Al Matroushi, for assessment. The championships
include the 21st Police Iron Man Tournament, the 5th police Shooting
Tournament and the 7th Ministry of Interior’s sporting event. It will
also examine recommendations to establish the Police Fitness and
Challenge Tournament. The Board also submitted the schedule of sports
activities suggested by the Union’s board for the upcoming season
2014-2015 to the Technical Committee to be reviewed prior to approval.
The
Police Sports Union Board of Directors also approved forming a UAE
Police delegation to participate in the 3rd meeting for GCC Presidents
of Police Sports Unions, which will be held at the General Secretariat
in Riyadh on 18 – 19 June 2014. The delegation will include Brigadier
Saleh Al Matroushi, Brigadier Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem, and Colonel Mohammed
bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri.
The Board also approved a proposal aimed
at developing the Union’s statute and submitting a draft of the proposed
suggestions and amendments to the Board, in an effort to develop the
police sports work, then take the appropriate actions accordingly.
The
Board stressed the need to sign Memoranda of understanding and
agreements with the national sporting and educational associations and
institutions, especially the Ministry of Education, universities,
councils, educational zones and sporting clubs, with a view to exchange
experiences and make sports partnerships to promote the various forms of
UAE sports.
At the end of the meeting, members of the board of
directors attended a presentation by the Strategy and Performance
Development Department on the Police Sports Union’s strategy; the
strategic initiatives and operational plans of all initiatives related
to Ministry of Interior’s strategy (2014-2016). The presentation was
highly acclaimed by the Union’s Board of Directors, for the positive
impact it will have on developing police sports work in the coming
years.
The President of the Union thanked the Board members, and
wished them luck in exerting further effort to promote sports work in
the various police sectors.
